Arc XP (www.arcxp.com) is a cloud-based digital experience platform that helps enterprise companies, retail brands and media and entertainment organizations create and distribute content, drive digital commerce, and deliver powerful multichannel experiences. A division of The Washington Post, Arc XP has powered the digital transformation of customers across the globe, currently serving more than 1,500 sites in 25 countries that reach more than 1.5 billion unique and visitors monthly.
 
You’ll be working on the design system that powers PageBuilder Editor, Arc's platform for managing and delivering a diverse set of media, brand and eCommerce experiences, and PageBuilder Themes, Arc XP’s turnkey solution designed to enable publishers, broadcasters and commerce brands to build and launch new sites in less than 30 days while ensuring they can take advantage of Arc XP’s existing customization capabilities and flexible site management system. In 2021, Arc XP released commerce capabilities, enabling e-commerce and retail organizations to take advantage of the Arc XP platform. The team must now evolve our design system, to help commerce organizations build powerful digital experiences for their shoppers. This role presents immense opportunity for a designer to contribute to this product. The ideal designer is a systems thinker, and strives to build systems that are extensible, accessible, and a delight to use by engineers and designers.

Responsibilities
  • Tell the story of our product experiences through service blueprints, customer journeys and other storytelling methods.
  • Produce high-quality work within Figma, including wireframes, prototypes, design explorations, etc.
  • Work with client organizations who use the design system to gather feedback and find opportunities to improve efficiencies of the engineer experience.
  • Lead workshops and ideation sessions to build consensus amongst peers and stakeholders to drive design system decisions forward.
  • Collaborate with the design team to conduct regular research and usability tests to identify areas of design optimization.
  • Contribute to Arc XP’s design system, which powers all of Arc XP’s internal tools, in addition to the PageBuilder Themes design system.
  • Keep the larger organization apprised on the progress and vision of PageBuilder, through regular presentations and demos of in-flight work.
  • Serve as a design system thought leader within the organization by identifying opportunities for process improvements, providing design system feedback, and sharing insights and industry news.
  • Work diligently with your fellow designers, developers, product managers and researchers to transform data (both qualitative and quantitative) into rationale design decisions.
  • Recommend and execute user research for new and existing products, and make recommendations for change.
 
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant product design experience with a focus on D2C experiences.
  • Proven track record of designing and helping to ship successful products and services.
  • Experience executing and facilitating concept ideation, wireframing, design iterations, design QA, and successful product launches across multiple products.
  • Prior experience working within a component-based design system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to tell compelling stories about your work and present it confidently to your team and stakeholders.
  • BS/BA in Design, HCI, or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • High proficiency in Figma.
  • Familiar with the basics of HTML and CSS.
  • Familiar with basic accessibility standards and web best practices.
  • Preferred: Designed commerce D2C experiences
  • Preferred: Designed editorial B2B experiences
  • Preferred: Participated in building and maintaining a growing library of Figma components.
  • Preferred: Were involved with the planning, building, and launching of an e-commerce design system.
  • Preferred: Are familiar with React.js and the benefits of component-based design.
  • Preferred: Experience working with data analytics.
  • Preferred: Foster and encourage teams to design experiences for everyone. We’re especially seeking a11y and i18n experts and advocates who can continue to ensure our design system is universal, inclusive, and follows best practice.

The Washington Post includes salary ranges for certain positions to comply with local pay transparency laws. The salary range for this position is:

$100,100.00 - $166,900.00

 

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
